The Soul

Once, there was a bright, shining soul. Sometime before this life, it was called before God. The soul stood in wonder, gazing upon the Soul of Souls, its source. God smiled at Their creation. “Our beautiful child, the time has come for you to choose: to live or remain here.” The soul pondered. Live? Remain? After an eternity of looking within, the soul turned to God and asked, “Am I not alive now?”

God smiled a beautiful song. “This existence is more than life. This existence is the source of Our love.” A new feeling stirred within the soul, something it had never known before. “Does being alive hurt?” the soul asked. God’s light grew grave and serious. “Have I asked the wrong question?” the soul asked, fearful of wounding God.

God laughed with all that They were. “There are no wrong questions you are capable of asking, child.” Then, gently, They answered. “Yes. Life will hurt, but it will also be good.” The soul felt the strange new feeling again, now so familiar. “What is this feeling, God?” And God, in Their sacred language, explained the meaning of fear. “Will You be there in life?” the soul asked. God was moved. “I will always be with you.” “Are there others like me?” the soul inquired. “There are others who will journey with you, but you are unique. There is only one of each version of Our love.” The soul considered this, then said, “Alright. I choose to live.”

God smiled. The soul already seemed so human now. “What would you like your life path to be?” The soul would not have been able to answer before, but now an infinite number of paths unfolded before it. It did not take long to choose. “I will journey through this path,” the soul said, selecting one from within itself. God examined the choice and spoke knowingly. “That is certainly a beautiful life, full of joy, but also much pain and loss. Why have you not chosen an easier path? Why leave this place at all?” The soul, with newfound clarity, replied, “I see that there will be loss and pain in this life, but I choose it because it leads to sharing a message of love through the ability to create.

It is a life of kindness, one where I do not willfully harm another. I want to live so that, in the end, I will truly understand what it means to be here now. I want this life more than I have ever wanted anything.” The soul had never wanted anything before. God, in Their language of creation, declared, “So shall it be.”

And so it was… And so you are.. And so I Am..And so we are.
